What a Google Workspace Reseller Transfer Actually Involves
“No downtime” is easy to promise, so here is the actual mechanism, including the parts that can bite you. Moving your billing to an Indian reseller runs on Google’s transfer token flow — it changes who invoices you, and nothing else.
The transfer token, step by step
- A super admin on your domain signs in to the Google Admin console and generates a transfer token against our reseller identifier. It is a short alphanumeric string, and generating it changes nothing on its own.
- You send us the token. Google gives it a limited validity window — currently 30 days — after which it expires and a fresh one has to be generated.
- We redeem the token, which moves the subscription onto our reseller agreement. Your users, mailboxes, Drive files, groups, shared drives, org units, DLP rules and admin roles are untouched. Nobody is signed out.
- Billing switches to a Skynetiks GST invoice in INR from the next cycle, and your account manager is assigned.
Things that block a transfer
Most failed transfers we see are caused by account state, not by anything technical:
- An unpaid balance sitting on the Google account — clear it before you generate the token.
- Nobody with super admin rights available. A delegated admin cannot issue the token.
- Subscriptions bought through a marketplace or bundled with another vendor’s contract, which sometimes have to be cancelled and re-provisioned instead.
- An already-expired token, which is simply regenerated.
Why the card failure escalates to a lockout
This is the failure chain behind most “our email suddenly stopped” calls from Indian businesses on direct billing:
RBI’s recurring-payment framework requires an e-mandate with pre-debit notification and, above a threshold, additional-factor authentication on each recurring card charge. Indian corporate cards frequently decline the automated Google debit under those rules. Google retries, the invoice ages into arrears, and the subscription moves toward suspension — at which point mail flow stops for everyone. Nothing is wrong with your card or your domain; the mandate simply did not clear. Invoice-based INR payment takes the card mandate out of the loop entirely, which is the actual reason this problem disappears when billing moves to a local reseller.
